First Week Sales Are In: Rick Ross Nabs His 5th #1 Album; Pharrell Comes In At #2

Ricky Rozay earned himself the top spot on the Billboard 200 in this week’s album sales, selling 179,000 copies of Mastermind in his first week. This is Ross’ 5th #1 Album in his career…

All six of Ross’ albums released through a major label have reached the top two positions on the chart, with only 2010’s Teflon Don missing the No. 1 slot.

Can’t argue with a career like this … 5 #1 albums is not very common – it’s definitely a marker of a hip-hop juggernaut …

Among all hip-hop artists, Ross joins an elite group of rappers that have earned themselves 5 #1 albums. DMX and 2Pac also have 5 #1’s, while Nas and Kanye West each have 6. Eminem has 7, and Jay Z leads with 13.

Although I’ve always thought Ross would be a little too hood to appeal to more of a mainstream fan base, he either has proved me wrong or just doesn’t need it to rake in the big numbers …

Pharrell’s G I R L came in at #2 behind Ross, which was definitely a big surprise given Pharrell’s popularity with his single, “Happy.” He sold 112,000 copies in his first week…
