Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Nas’ “Illmatic” – Exciting 2014 Updates; Be On the Lookout for A New Feature of So.Synonymous “Artist Time Machine” Featuring Nas

2014 marks the 20th anniversary of possibly the greatest rap album of all time, Illmatic. Since this year began, Nas has made a couple of announcements to help us commemorate this unforgettable piece of work:

1) Illmatic XX –  Nas announced recently that he will be releasing a 20th anniversary edition of Illmatic, appropriately titled Illmatic XX. The 2 disc set is planned to drop on April 19, 4 days prior to the album’s original release in 1994. In addition to the album, the CD will provide remixes, freestyles, and unreleased tracks. We were lucky enough to be graced with one piece of the bonus material from the album – a remix of “It Ain’t Hard to Tell” made by a guy named “Stink.” Cool name … Check out the song in the video link above … Below is the album cover…

Here’s the tracklist for the Bonus CD on Illmatic XX

1. I’m a Villain (Previously Unreleased)
2. The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show on WKCR October 28, 1993 (previously unreleased freestyle)
3. Halftime (Butcher Remix)
4. It Ain’t Hard To Tell (Remix) (Promo single)
5. One Love (LG Main Mix)
6. Life’s a Bitch (Arsenal Mix) (Promo single)
7. One Love (One L Main Mix)
8. The World Is Yours (Q-Tip Mix)
9. It Ain’t Hard To Tell (The Stink Mix) (UK single)
10. It Ain’t Hard To Tell (The Laidback Remix) (UK single)

2) Coachella – In addition, Nas recently announced that he will be performing Illmatic in its entirety at Coachella later this year along with other venues throughout 2014 … Let me remind you that Outkast also announced recently that they will be kicking off their reunion tour at Coachella this year … If this isn’t a venue I HAVE to be at, I don’t know what is …

3) Time Is Illmatic – Even more great news … There’s an upcoming documentary titled “Time is Illmatic” in the works for this year. The film is probably what you would expect – taking us through the production, release, and critical acclaim of Illmatic. No word on the release yet, but this is just another example of the type of year we have to look forward to if we’re Nas fans …

Artist Time Machine – Nas
—- In commemoration of this anniversary, So.Synonymous will be kicking off a new feature of the site called “Artist Time Machine” featuring Nas. These features will be posted periodically (around once a week) to take you through the career of the rappers that are featured, some of their career’s most iconic moments, the path they have taken to get here today, and certainly a wide range of commentary on the artist as well…

This will be dropping tomorrow morning – So keep a look out for it!!
